It fastens with a hinged pin and C clasp and there is a 15ct mark on the underside of the hinge. I love the 15ct gold mark This standard of gold was introduced in 1854 (along with 12 & 9ct) and was discontinued in 1932 (along with 12ct) and a new standard of 14ct was substituted. So if you have a piece marked 15ct you know it was made between those two dates.
It weighs 11g and measures 1 (2.6cm) tip of nose to tail and is ¾ (2cm) tall. I have found a little Victorian Box for it lined in Burgundy silk and velvet. It is not the original but from the same period. In excellent condition - originally had a safety chain (loupe on leg) but this is now gone - I can have one put on if required - just ask.
